Languages: Sol CommonAnd when contact was established, the Admiral waved at the screen and said, "Mi parolas la lingvon de la Homines!" - I speak the language of Mankind. A simplified mix of Esperanto and Modern Latin, and the only recognized official language of the Sol Federation. This peculiar constructed language became popular during SolFed's earliest days, and was almost entirely overtaken by other popular tongues - it became widespread through heavy-handed political maneuvering with the help of corporate bureaucrats and other undesirables. Nowadays, it's a near-universal tongue and a must-know for any sentient being that plans to leap forward into space.

HC Expeditionary Patrol Field Guide & Quick Reference

Supplement to Standard Operating Procedures For Official Use Only

(Note: This paper spawns aboard the Heliostatic Coalition Inspectors random ship event, and is here as reference).

1. Alert Status Cheat Sheet

  • STATUS ZERO (MARBLE): Standby. Weapons locked. Relax. Do admin. Be polite.
  • STATUS ONE (SILVER): Routine Inspection. Weapons holstered, safeties off. Be professional, firm, and by-the-book. (Ref: Sect. III)
  • STATUS TWO (COBALT): Elevated Threat. Weapons low-ready. Demand explanations for protocol breaches. Prepare for combat. Requires a pattern of violations, not a single mistake. De-escalate if possible. (Ref: Sect. III)
  • STATUS THREE (PEARL): Hostile Intent Confirmed. Weapons free. They are shooting. You are shooting. Neutralize threats and break contact. (Ref: Sect. III)
  • STATUS FOUR (ONYX): Fight for Survival. Total warfare. Use everything you have to get out alive. (Ref: Sect. III)
  • STATUS FIVE (OBSIDIAN): Broken Arrow. Ship lost. Scuttle everything. Deny all assets to the enemy. No surrender. (Ref: Sect. III)

2. First Contact & Approach (The "Don't Get Ambushed" List)

Before docking, send the pre-inspection packet via secure channel (fax/comm console). (Ref: Sect. IV-A) On approach, ensure the station complies with the "Big 5":

  1. Escort Limit: Max 2 armed guards per 1 head to meet you. (Ref: Sect. IV.1)
  2. Positioning: They stay in front; you have an escape route.
  3. Our Ship is Off-Limits: Their security cannot approach our ship without explicit permission. We leave a Ship Overseer. (Ref: Sect. IV.3)l
  4. No Raid Prep: Watch for their security mobilizing on cams. Call them out on the public announcement (PA) system if they are. (Ref: Sect. IV.4)
  5. No Surprise Packages: Do not accept anything unless its contents are declared and scanned. Immediately dispose of and report any unexpected parcels. (Ref: Sect. IV.5)

3. Rules of Engagement (ROE) Quick Guide

  • Never be the first to draw your weapon.
  • Never be the first to aim.
  • Never be the first to fire.
  • You MAY use lethal force if a hostile clearly does any of the above to you or your team. (Ref: Sect. III, Status One & Two)
  • Once they fire, all ROE restrictions are lifted. (Ref: Sect. III, Status Three)

4. Bluespace Artillery Cannon (BSA) - The Three Commands

  1. DODGE: If it charges, thrusters to full. It can't hit a moving target. (Ref: Sect. X.A)
  2. CONFIRM: A BSA firing on us is a confirmed act of war. Status immediately to PEARL. (Ref: Sect. X.B)
  3. NEUTRALIZE: One block of C4 on the main battery destroys it. (Ref: Sect. X.C)

5. Shore Leave & Conduct

  • You are a diplomat. Your behavior reflects on the entire Coalition. Be professional. (Ref: Sect. VII)
  • You may socialize. Building informal relationships is encouraged. Use good judgment. (Ref: Sect. VII-A)
  • Spend your credits. Boosting the local economy is good PR. You can even take on civilian bounties for extra cash if approved by the watch officer. (Ref: Sect. VI-B)
  • Recall is immediate. If you hear the recall order, you run back to the ship. No exceptions.

6. Law Enforcement on Station (See Something, Say Something)

  • Your default action: Observe and Report to station security. It's their job, not yours. (Ref: Sect. VIII)
  • You may ONLY intervene if:
    • A life is in immediate, direct danger (yours, a crewmate's, a civilian's).
    • Station security is absent/can't respond.
    • The station's Captain formally requests your help.
  • Crime Response Examples:
    • A fistfight? Yell for security to break it up. Do not draw your weapon.
    • Arson? Hit the alarm, grab an extinguisher. Contain, don't chase.
    • Someone with a knife actively stabbing people? You are authorized to draw your sidearm and intervene with proportional force to stop the threat.
    • A terrorist with a bomb? Neutralize the threat with any means necessary. This is a Pearl Status situation.

7. The "Actual's" Discretion

  • The patrol leader ("'Callsign' Actual") has final say on everything.
  • They can relax rules to be more friendly if the situation is safe and it helps the mission. (Ref: Sect. XII-A)
  • They can authorize the purchase of local goods and equipment to improve our capabilities. (Ref: Sect. VI-B.C)
  • Trust their judgment. Their primary duty is to bring us all home safely.

Remember: This guide is a summary. When in doubt, refer to the full SOP document or consult your commanding officer. Stay vigilant, stay professional, and come home safe.
