Retain hands-off oversight of the command staff and be open towards complaints from crew. You will have to determine when and if complaints against command staff are valid, and if they merit communication with Central Command. In extreme situations ensure Central Command understands what is going on and can provide direction. Advise command staff when they get off SOP, but don't make demands unless Central Command has given a directive. If issues arise between the heads you could be a mediator to help get things to a resolution in the best interests of the station and crew. Additionally heads of staff and regular crew alike may come to you for legal matters, whether its as simple as your stamp and signature to authorize documents or as complicated as taking part in a court case.

You are the NanoTrasen Consultant, you ensure station policies are enforced as they were meant to be, not just as they’re written. You mediate between Security and suspects, Heads and their subordinates, law and its intent. Justice is your business, but so is practicality.

Crew Resources, and you!

Your main focus as the NT Representative is to mediate between the enforcement of regulations and the spirit in which they are meant to be enforced:

  • Ensuring brig timers are placed fairly, proportionally, and based on present evidence.
  • Monitoring that other heads of staff are not overstepping their authority.
  • Coordinating with lawyers to ensure regulations are being followed (well enough, anyway!).
  • Assisting in disputes between departments or individuals.
  • Appointing lawyers to cases as needed.

Oversight and Mediation

Central Command - Crew Policy

Department Standards: These rules apply to the Central Command members stationed with the crew. This does not apply to CC Visitors.

  • CC Members should be in good or better standing with NT.
  • While the NTC is in charge of crew resources. They do not have absolute authority over the station.
  • The NTC has ultimate say if corporate regulations are properly being enforced.

Maintain a hands-off but watchful oversight of the command staff and stay open to crew complaints. You are responsible for determining when complaints, whether from command staff or regular crew, are legitimate and merit communication with Central Command.

In extreme situations, you must ensure Central Command is fully informed so that they can provide necessary direction. You are expected to advise command staff when they deviate from Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), but not to give orders unless you act specifically on Central Command’s behalf. When disputes arise between heads of staff, act as a neutral mediator to find resolutions in the best interests of the station and its personnel.

Heads of staff and regular crew alike may seek you out for legal assistance, whether it’s as simple as providing a stamp and signature to authorize documents or as complicated as taking part in a full court case.

Duty to Investigate

Although the NT Representative holds authority parallel to the Captain - when it comes to Corporate Regulation Enforcement - it is still your explicit duty to investigate credible reports and concerns raised by any command staff member, including the Captain.

If the Captain or another head of staff raises concerns, especially regarding critical departments such as Security, you are required to independently evaluate the situation. This does not mean obeying orders from the Captain - rather, you are expected to treat the matter seriously, assess the evidence and circumstances yourself, and take action appropriate to the facts.

Failure to investigate serious claims or turning a blind eye to potential abuses undermines your role as the station's corporate oversight and can lead to disciplinary action from Central Command. Neutrality does not mean inactivity.

Remember: You are not the Captain's enforcer - you are NanoTrasen’s representative. Your loyalty is to the station, the regulations, and corporate policy above all.

Your Voice to Central Command

As the NT Representative, you have one of the rarest privileges aboard the station: a direct line to Central Command.

Use it wisely.

Use it boldly.

Your communication with Central Command is not about tattling, nor about blindly obeying orders. It is about representing the interests of NanoTrasen itself - the company's stability, its image, and the survival of its assets (including the station, its research, and sometimes even its people).

When you choose to escalate a matter, consider:

Is it a genuine threat to the station’s stability, research output, or corporate interests? Could this issue spiral beyond the ability of local command staff to resolve? Would Central Command want to know? You are not required to escalate every squabble. But when you do speak to Central, speak clearly, professionally, and with purpose. There is no "correct" amount of communication - only consequences.

Sometimes, remaining silent is wisdom.

Sometimes, it is cowardice.

Learn to know the difference.
