Event Assistant
Preamble and Description
Defines the intent of the Role and it's position within the Community. Advertises the Role.
Event Assistants are the social and interactive base of the Staff team. Socialites, writers, hard roleplayers rejoice, your talents are acknowledged in Nova Sector. This position bridges the gap between the classic personality demographics found within this game's community - analytical gamers and creative writers. These volunteers are expected to handle our day to day interactions from CentCom, answer faxes from the Syndicate, provide salvation and word of guidance from (YOUR FAVORED DEITY), and react to In Round occurrences with meaningful additions.
Event Assistants are also expected to plan and run coordinated events on a 'regular' basis. These Events should be larger in scale (to the point of being the focus of the shift for all those on station), have announcements to either all Crew or Staff, and be thought out and planned.
While trained to the same baseline Obligations as all Staff are, they are the last in line for handling Policy or Enforcement related tickets, of any group within the Hierarchy. Consequentially, the Event Assistants are supported by the entire Staff Hierarchy in accomplishing their goals, as long as those goals meet the expectations of our Policy and our Rules.
Writer Credits and Background
The writer (s) jointly provide a statement on the Role at the time of last Revision.
The Fabled 'Event Team'. This is an incendiary decision to re-implement, as it reportedly never goes well. Those attempts were not us, our team, our mindset, or our current population. For a long time, creative types had no acknowledged place within the Staff Hierarchy. If you were unable to show your ability to be analytical and handle the meat and pain of rules enforcement, you were shuttered from access to the tools or allowances.
This just is not sustainable, nor does it provide a quality experience to our players that must suffer the creativity of one who reads policy and wikis for entertainment. We acknowledge this as an issue, and this is our attempt to change course. Nothing about Enforcement, with the Game Assistants or Administrators, is wholesomely enjoyable. Our Event Staff, and the Crew at large, should understand that we expect the same quality of them as we expect of our Staff in other Projects. What we are asking is not easy, and Event Assistants meeting expectations will be performing genuine labor for the Community.
Writer 1 - moonridden / moonridden
Defines Writer 1's contributions to the page, and how they feel on it. This section is by the Writer.
I wrote this page, and it's concept, in its entirety. I have argued long and hard about this. I warned everyone that I would do this if given the opportunity. I came up as Staff in a frigid environment for these desires, I will ensure no one else experiences things the way I did. Event Assistant is doing for other what I wish could have been done for me, as are many of the Roles and changes that are being implemented are intended to accomplish. These people within our Community that try hard to make things happen on a small scale should be hoisted by their scruff and placed on a special pedestal with a built in megaphone. Do I expect them to say and do stupid things? Absolutely. Rules are written in blood, but I will never again hear about how 'Nothing Ever Happens'. I'm willing to have public gaffs and mistakes at the cost of training competent Event Staff that, in the long run, will hopefully be worth this investment of social and mental power.
