Republic of Heliaca
Overview

By legal mandate, every citizen and resident is required to display at least one such flag, hung precisely within their residence; likewise, each street must exhibit at least one hoisted standard, and every building must display one prominently at its entrance, preferably affixed to a flagpole set at a no more than 45-degree angle. Noncompliance is deemed an undemocratic act and is subject to court-martial.
The Federated Republic of Heliaca, or the Republic of Heliaca, or simply Heliaca, is a consolidated and intricate political entity best described as a Stratocratic Citizen Republic. It constitutes a heavily militarised regime wherein all legislative and executive authority is exclusively vested in democratically elected individuals who have fulfilled mandatory military service; citizenry, by constitutional decree, is conferred exclusively upon those who have served under arms, wheretofore governance is monopolised by former and current military personnel. Representatives are selected through a layered sequence of elections, the eligibility for which is predicated upon verified service, with the goal of entwining the machinery of state with the apparatus of war.
Following its unification —a process shrouded in both ideological fervour and martial consolidation— Heliaca expanded to neighbouring celestial territories, proclaiming its ambition to “spread our democracy” and “grant liberty to those without it.” These declarations, often dismissed as jingoistic cant by external observers, nonetheless formed the casus belli for multiple interventions. The Republic's political ideology is frequently denounced by foreign critics as overzealously proselytising and violently intolerant, given its systematic suppression of dissenting or antithetical schools of thought, which are summarily denounced as “undemocratic” by the state apparatus.
Heliaca’s diplomatic standing across the interstellar order may be best summarised as precariously multifaceted: it maintains a spectrum of enmities, wary neutralities, and rare strategic friendships. Although not presently engaged in open warfare with any principal galactic power, official communiqués repeatedly declare an intent to “bring liberty to the oppressed” in specific polities, whence concern arises of prospective belligerence under the guise of emancipation. The internal condition of Heliacan society—its economic vigour, demographic composition, and citizen-government dynamics—remains elusive. The regime disseminates selectively curated statistics, the veracity of which is frequently impugned by foreign experts, whilst independent sources report incongruent and often contradictory data, hencewith rendering a precise sociopolitical diagnosis unattainable.
Raison D’être
According to government-sanctioned media, verbatim: "Setting aside all that was said and all history that had occurred on our beloved planet, the true and enduring raison d’être of Heliaca, encompassing its governance, constitution, and delineation of civil liberties, is to enshrine liberty and democracy upon those who, through service, safeguard these very principles; whence arises a society not merely free, but perpetually fortified against the encroachment of undemocratic elements."
Brief History
Heliaca was formed as a result of what they call a period of "Total War", where virtually all major nations of the world were in constant conflict, whether as a result of domination ambitions, cultural struggles, or more largely ideologcal differences. Ultimately, the more democratically aligned nations were victors in this struggle. In an effort to "quell any further undemocratic alignments", which they regarded as "existential threats given history", a constitution was written and a new unified government was created, which many independent experts regarded as "overly zealous" and "dangerously insistent", as many accusations against Heliaca were raised, primarily accusations of "Violent Suppression" of any semblance of opposing ideologies, which they considered "
